Thank you @Steve Vladeck for hosting @Adam Klasfeld earlier today. Truly appreciated is the way that your discussion brought to light that the Trump administration and its lawyers are not outright defying court orders, but merely (coyly) saying, in paraphrase, “Our interpretation of the court’s orders is such that it differs from the opposing side.” It’s such chickenshit “logic” that makes no sense, at least not in the rational world we once used to live in. But it does leave these unconstitutional bastards wriggle room to also argue they are not defying court’s orders, just “reinterpreting them.” It’s so maddening.

Great focus, but just one clarification regarding lawyers reaffirming their oaths on May 1st in federal courthouses across the country — for all years I’ve walked the planet, May 1st has been known as Law Day.

Thanks! My understanding is that what's coming up on Thursday is a Law Day like no other. Heavier on the nationwide actions, lighter on the luncheons and lectures. A Law Day with a decidedly May Day flavor.

Thank you so much. I have had recent conversations with family and friends who feel hopeless. You both are stressing the key points of how to stay connected and involved in democracy. There IS hope! Learn about our legal and civic processes!

Great interview. Really like your shared mission - to explain the legal technicalities, progress, and outcomes of all the cases. I, too, have noticed the disconnect between the administration's public bluster and gov lawyers' responses in court, noting that, for the most part, the gov is complying with court rulings. When I mention this to friends and family, it is clear they often do not recognize the incremental wins. The high profile cases are taking up all the oxygen and creating alot of anxiety. This just underlines the importance of your work, Steve and Adam. Thank you both.

Great conversation with Adam Kasfeld. Thanks for making it happen. You two discussed Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case, and I have a question about that. What is the status of the 250 or so similarly situated prisoners in CECOT? The issue in Garcia is not specific to his case and does not involve a factual question such as whether Garcia is a gang member or Mother Theresa. Garcia's case turns on whether Garcia, and by extension the other detainees, was given notice and an opportunity to be heard on the government's claims before being whisked off the street and sent to a foreign prison. The Supreme Court has unanimously said Garcia is owed this right and that the Administration has to facilitate his return and to possibly effectuate his return once the lower court more precisely defines on remand what it meant by "effectuate". So wouldn't this ruling, or at least the principle espoused by the Court, apply to all the detainees? Do each of them need to sue individually? Is anyone suing on their behalves?

I'm looking forward to more of this. Seeing issues from slightly different angles. I feel more informed by this than by one person explaining things to me.

I was at a local Indivisible meeting during the live streaming, so caught up with this today over lunch (after watching local County Commissioners and some State Legislative hearings).

Busy times! Thanks Steve and Adam! I heard about All Rise on the Daily Beans with Allison Gill, and I'm glad you featured him and did a podcast-esqu (including a naming of the episoce). I was a long-time listener to the NSL podcast with Bobby, and I miss that format. I am glad Steve is publishing his takes and I read the one on the early (!) am SCOTUS ruling with great interest.

I missed the live stream, but am glad I spent the time to watch this recording. And, also glad to have discovered another excellent resource, All Rise News, to help me/us stay informed about the very important (and often under-reported) developments within our government.

Thanks, guys!

I so appreciate Steve's probing about how to help those who are more concerned with watching cat videos on TikTok understand why we do not have the luxury of political apathy if we don't want to lose our current rights and freedom to be so apathetic.

Who can do what when Trump ignores the court rulings?
