Happy New Year! It’s 2023. I’ve only written the wrong date on four different things. Please clap.

For those who are new to “One First”: Thanks for joining us here at Karen’s Corner—a once-monthly bonus issue of “One First” from Steve’s better half. Consider this less of a nerdy Supreme Court review, and more like the One First After Dark, where we get real about all things in the legal profession, parenthood, and life more generally. It might even be filled with some drama, like last month’s issue that made one reader so angry that we were discussing what he described as “domestic topics” that he unsubscribed.
